Our Origin

It Starts With a Question. It Grew into a Movement.

Rematter started with coffee grounds.

Every day, I tossed them out without a second thought—until one day, I paused. Could this waste have another life?

That small question sparked a bigger realization: we're surrounded by wastes that are thrown away but can be reused. Plastic bottles, coffee grounds, cardboard, fabric scraps, even broken electronics—what if these weren't the end, but the beginning?

From that moment on, we had the idea to found ReMatter corporation. ReMatter means make waste matter again; ReMatter means re-materialize; ReMatter means ,yes, waste matters.

With a belief that waste is not worthless, we want to promote this value to everyone, reimagining what is possible. We want to inspire people to see value where others see trash, reuse them and turn them into treasure. And that even the smallest everyday action—like saving your coffee grounds—can lead to something beautiful, useful, and sustainable.

Our Mission

Our mission is to ignite a culture of sustainability by transforming waste into opportunity — inspiring communities to reimagine, repurpose, and rematter the world around them.

Our Goal

Our goal is to provide an accessible platform where individuals can first know upcycle, then discover practical, creative and impactful ways to upcycle everyday waste and finally bring reuse into their daily life.

Co-founder, Director of Media Relations

Hello! My name is Raffi, and I'm a sophomore in high school. Since I was young, I've always had a passion for environmental science and sustainability. I live on a farm where sustainability is very important: every day involves sustainable plant growth and animal care. I have always loved exploring my farm and finding new ways I can reuse materials and plants, such as making watercolor paint out of berries or chicken feed from plants. When Helen came to me with the idea to join this organization as the Director of Media Relations, I knew it would be right for me since I would love to help make New England a more sustainable place.

Hi, I'm Shengbo Jiang. I've always been keen on finding methods and innovative paths in how computer science can push us toward a cleaner planet. I spend a lot of my free time building little features and projects—like trackers that show how much water you save or mini-challenges that turn recycling into a friendly competition—because a small reminder on a screen might be able to change real-life habits. With Releaf, my goal is to make sustainable choices feel easy, maybe even fun. I'm always the person that maintains, improves your path of asking questions, the badges that celebrate your first tree, and the map that shows all the other people that are motivated and interested in sustainability just like you. If you have ideas for living lighter, the online community dedicated to Releaf app is your go-to place. Through this tough and indestructible collaboration with our users, I believe that our path to a more sustainable world is clearer than ever.

Founder, Secretary, Treasurer

Hi, I am Yuhan Wang. I am deeply passionate about environmental protection and sustainable living. My journey began at a local coffee shop—I found that instead of discarding coffee grounds as waste, there are potential for reuse, and this sparks my passion for reusing and repurposing waste materials. This initial insight fueled my commitment to exploring innovative solutions for a greener future. Over time, I dedicated myself to researching and implementing sustainable practices, driven by the belief that small changes can lead to significant impact. Eager to expand these efforts, I connected with like-minded peers who shared my enthusiasm for sustainability and material reuse. Together, we founded ReMatter, aiming to transform discarded materials into valuable resources. Through this venture, we strive to challenge conventional waste management systems and provide waste a second life. I'm excited about the possibilities ahead and look forward to contributing to a more sustainable world.
